Marenco, Drake Bay & Corcovado National Park

Our day started with a wonderful sunrise. Today we visited one of the most intense places on earth, the Osa peninsula. We began out morning kayaking in the Agujas River. Translucent water welcomed as we had the chance to see a gallery of lush green forests. The songs of many birds such as riverside wrens, black-hooded antshrikes, bare-throated tiger-heron and many vireos were the morning chorus. Later, after observing wildlife from our Zodiacs, we returned to the Sea Voyager where a delicious breakfast awaited us.

After breakfast, we disembarked in Marenco, where some of us took a fascinating ride on local horses. From the horses we saw elusive scarlet macaws as well as fearless white-faced capuchin monkeys. Some of us opted to go on a birding walk instead, where we saw bay-headed tanagers, violaceous trogon, common black hawks and many other avian species.

The afternoon came faster than expected. We repositioned our vessel to the realms of the Osa Peninsula. The Corcovado National Park welcomed us with the richness of its ecosystem. At the park we took a walk to the San Pedrillo Waterfall. Along the trail, we saw all kinds of trees, including what is locally know as Ajo (the garlic tree). We also came upon huge Ficus trees, and found many crocodiles sunbathing near the water. After our walk, a natural pool gave us the chance to refresh our bodies with the pristine waters of the San Pedrillo River. Later on, we returned to the Sea Voyager where we had a delicious traditional dinner from Costa Rica!

Today Nature shared its wonders with all of us, and another wonderful day is coming, I’m sure it will be filled with memories of a lifetime.

Hasta mañana.
