National Geographic Sea Bird anchored at the confluence of the Snake and Palouse Rivers early this morning and disembarked guests at 0800. We operated in two rounds of about 2 hours each with half of the guests visiting the Palouse Falls and the other half exploring the Palouse River via Zodiacs, and then switching. Situated 5 miles from the confluence, the 167’ falls is Washington State’s official waterfall. Zodiacs motored upriver for about 3 miles looking for wildlife and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
We spent the rest of the day cruising downriver on the Snake, passing through two locks at the Lower Monumental and Ice Harbor dams. Guests were educated on the locks and dams, smartphone photography, and wines of Washington. An after-dinner presentation by US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo rounded out a wonderful day.
