We woke once again off the coast of Belize, surrounded by the crystal-clear, turquoise of the Caribbean Sea
We spent the entire day at Ranguana Caye, soaking up as much sunshine as we possibly could on what is our final day in Belize. Ranguana Caye is a private island of 2 acres, 20 miles east of yesterday’s venturing in Placencia.
We were later accompanied by Splash Dive diving guides from Placencia. We were well acquainted with the diving guides by this time and were happy to spend the day with new friends. Accompanying Splash Dive were local musicians who drummed, sang, and got us moving to the music! They even performed a local birthday song—happy birthday, Gary!
Since Belize is so well known for its barrier reef, we wanted to maximize our time in the water today. We had the opportunity to snorkel at various spots around the island and could spend all day snorkeling if our heart’s desired. We were also able to explore the reef via kayaks and paddleboards. The lack of wind today offered perfect paddleboarding conditions for the experienced and those new to the sport. Looking down into the water from the watercraft you could see sea stars, eagle rays, fish, and more.
Our late afternoon around Ranguana was a highlight for many. The local conch fishermen were cleaning their catch nearby, which brought in a variety of marine life. Southern stingrays, yellow spotted sting rays, eagle rays, reef sharks, nurse sharks and even a bull shark all schooled around the shallow turtle grass, taking advantage of the fishermen’s scraps. What an absolute treat to see so many marine animals in one spot. We ended the day with some local beers, margaritas, and pina coladas on the beach. Belize, thank you for the lifelong memories!
