We started our day by visiting the brave Adelie penguins that live at Red Rock Ridge. We even spotted some juveniles yet to shed their white chins. The chicks were so adorably distracting that we barely noticed the fat snowflakes raining down around us.
The afternoon was an historic day for National Geographic Resolution. We steamed south during lunch and each nautical mile became the furthest south that our beloved ship had ever traveled. Our destination was the sea ice only seen in satellite photos. Lo and behold, we were able to nestle the boat in the frozen ocean at 68°39’ South. Passengers used our famous penguin doors to walk right onto the ice and check out the crabeater seals nearby.
