Our guests woke up to beautiful sunshine this morning! As we made our way into Halleck Harbor, two humpback whales greeted us just outside the bay and a few minutes later, we saw sea otters with their pups.
It was low tide as we landed on shore, which allowed us some beach combing time. We discovered many intertidal critters under and on the rocks. Once we finished beach combing, the forest beckoned us. We followed a well-worn bear path into the forest. This area of the Tongass National Forest had been clear-cut, as seen by the secondary growth. We actually found some very large, downed Sitka spruce with cables still attached to them. However, the downed logs were now nurse logs that supported new vegetative life!
