Is there any humpback whale behavior that we haven't seen yet? That was the question of the day. After watching a variety of feeding behaviors on our first day, today's acrobatics rounded out the list. For the first several hours of our morning, we watched this rambunctious humpback put on a show. Pectoral fins slapping the water, tail flukes lobbed high and breach after breach after breach. Although the effort appears gargantuan to us, the reality is that just a few flicks of the powerful tail stock will propel this 35-ton animal completely out of the water. Of course, we were left breathless (and smiling) after this incredible display.

The remainder of the day brought close-up views of female sea otters with their pups and a rock-hopping, stream-crossing exploration of Fox Creek. Bright sunshine in the late afternoon put color in everyone's cheeks and smiles on our faces - and gratitude in our hearts for these wild woods and waters.
