Santa Cruz Island
Any given trip to the Galápagos archipelago is certainly one to be remembered forever. From all the many great memories that our visitors take back home, perhaps the observation of the Galápagos giant tortoises, constitutes to be the most unforgettable one.
We spent the whole day watching these majestic reptiles on Santa Cruz Island. In the morning, we visited the world-renowned Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS). In this institution, we admired the exemplary efforts that are being made to save the famous giant reptiles of the Galápagos. In the afternoon we saw them in the wild, at their natural habitat. These antediluvian-like critters were observed walking slowly through the characteristic vegetation of the highlands. Once onboard and during cocktail hour, the praising commentaries about the day were heard everywhere in the lounge. Quite a day! How can you top this? Wonderful!
I couldn’t help but feel a sincere mix of joy and pride, while listening to the comments made about the most emblematic animal of the Galápagos, and namesake of this paradisiacal archipelago!
