Bartolomé & Santiago Island.

We started our activities early in the morning, paying a visit to Bartolomé Island. This small island happens to be the most outstanding volcanic landscape of the entire Galápagos archipelago. In fact Bartolomé is like an open book of geology with all of the volcanic features that are found in the Galápagos Islands. Here a visitor can find all of the types of such as: cinder cones, pahoeho lava, aa lava, volcanic ash and lava dikes just to mention a few. These formations tell a lot about the past and present of the islands.

Later on we explored the beach close to the prominent pinnacle rock that gives Bartolomé a special touch of beauty and exceptionality. In the calm waters we could choose from a number of activities such as: swimming, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boating. The water that bathes this small island is nutrient rich, and the diversity of marine organisms is superb. We snorkeled with a myriad of tropical fish, among them large colorful parrot fish, sergeant majors, and sea lions.

Our next destination to explore was Puerto Egas which we reached by navigating around the western side of Santiago Island, all the while enjoying lunch and admiring the magnificent landscape. Once anchored, we headed to shore for a terrific snorkeling site overflowing with marine life including Pacific green sea turtles. After snorkeling we prepared for the long walk that took us through the interior of the island and later on along a gorgeous coastal area dotted with marine iguanas and sea lions.

This is a truly spectacular place, like a dream come true.
