Floreana Island

We awoke this morning off the shores of Floreana Island; the sun was already shining at the horizon, and the sparkling of the sunrays was reflected on the surface of the water.

Another adventurous day in Galápagos, what a thing to be looking forward to! Our day started when we disembarked at Post Office Bay, Floreana Island. This place was the area where buccaneers and whalers stopped a couple of hundred years ago to replenish their ships with water and food. Today we are following their footsteps and continuing with their ancient tradition of hand-delivering mail throughout the "post office" barrel system.
Some of our guests took postcards and also left more to be taken by future travelers, and hopefully, they will honor the old tradition and “hand” deliver them to their final destination.

After breakfast we repositioned the ship to a location known as Champion Island. It was here where we had one of the best snorkeling sessions of the week with sea lions, sharks and lots of tropical fish. It was a great experience, and it really felt as if we were inside a natural aquarium, decorated with lots of strange species.

For the afternoon we had lots of activities including kayaking, beach time and of course a walk along side a nice lagoon with flamingoes in it. It was great to see them on their natural feeding grounds, and as we made our way back, we found one single flamingo closer to the trail taking a “siesta” which took us all by surprise, but put a nice touch to the end of this great day at Floreana Island!
