Bartolome & Santiago Islands

The morning was amazing! The sun was shining, we had calm waters and great visibility, so after our hike to the top of Bartolomé Island, we discovered the underwater topography and the many fish of the area. After a great lunch, we disembarked for the beach at San Salvador Island. We snorkeled again and found a few sea turtles in the area. Lots of sea lions rested on the black sandy beach, while people sun bathed or walked along.

The loop trail took us first through the vegetation of the arid area where we saw Galápagos mockingbirds, grasshoppers, Galápagos doves and a Galápagos hawk. Then we arrived to the trail along a coastline rich in life. We saw a little bit of what we have had along the week, including sea lions, fur sea lions, marine iguanas, oyster catchers, sanderlings and whimbrels. Isabela volcanoes were perfectly clear to the west, and sunset was another spectacular scene. I truly enjoyed this Friday in the Galápagos Islands.
