Floreana Island
A fabulous day for this bird watching charter! Floreana offers a big display of our feathered friends, which was an all-day delight for a select group of dedicated ornithologists and bird lovers.
Starting with our first early morning outing to the Post Office Barrel, we saw a dozen Galápagos pink flamingoes flying from one side of the bay to the other, right above us! To see so many of them flying at the same time is quite unusual. It was really a delicacy to our bird-watching palates!
The highlight for the two other morning outings was the endemic Floreana mocking bird, lots of shearwaters, red-billed tropicbirds, sea lions, Sally Lightfoot crabs, finches and more.
At snorkeling time, we enjoyed the company of lots of colorful fish, star fish, a shark, a sea turtle and beautiful blue clear waters.
Kayakers had their own adventure after lunch paddling along the shoreline of Punta Cormorant, and a playful sea lion made our excursion really agreeable.
The afternoon was filled with a lot of mainly waders and lagoon birds: sandpipers, pintail ducks, black-necked stilts, whimbrels, yellow lesser legs, and black necked plovers. Four young fluffy gray flamingoes were the enjoyment for the last outing on Floreana.
