We were true explorers this morning when National Geographic Sea Bird anchored for the first time ever in Meter Bight, off Zarembo Island near the fishing village of Wrangell, Alaska.
Dividing into hiking groups, we spent the morning exploring the shoreline, riverbank, muskeg, and temperate rainforest. After lunch we docked at Wrangell, where some of us attended a cultural presentation at a traditional longhouse of the Tlingit (People of the Tide) tribe. Others boarded jet boats to go on a four-hour excursion up the Stikine River and then up a tributary leading to a lake with its own glacier.
