Before breakfast, we entered Sitkoh Bay and were greeted by a mother brown bear and her two cubs of the year. Now, that is a nice way to start the day!
We then set out to explore this stunning bay by kayaking, paddleboarding, and hiking. I led one of the long exploratory hikes; we covered about 5 miles and saw a diversity of habitats. Some highlights included huge patches of bright red paintbrush flowers, eating berries, and many massive piles of bear poop.
In the afternoon, it was time to head through Peril Strait toward Sitka. A few more humpbacks were spotted, along with Dall’s porpoises bow riding. What a day!
