This morning we sailed into dreamy Siglufjordur (sailing fjord) where time and nature are equally still. We started the day off with a visit to the Herring Era Museum where we were treated to a musical demonstration of the former industry that was responsible for 20% of Iceland’s economy for the first half of the twentieth century.
After lunch aboard the ship, we were bussed towards the end of the fjord where local volunteers have been nurturing Skarddalur, Iceland’s northernmost planted forest since 1940. We all were happy to get outside and explore the forest and its wonderful trails accompanied by local docents with translation from our Icelandic staff members. Many guests walked back to town on their own and explored the wetland birdlife on the way.
