In the highlands of Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos, our excursion led us to El Trapiche, a captivating coffee and sugarcane farm. Immersed in the artisanal process, we gained insight into the production of sugarcane spirits, or moonshine, and marveled at the meticulous techniques used to craft coffee. Afterward, our journey continued to a giant tortoise reserve, where we found ourselves among these majestic creatures.
Later in the afternoon, our exploration took us to a giant tortoise breeding center. Here, we encountered tortoises under the care of the largest restoration program in the Galapagos. The sight of baby tortoises filled us with hope for the future, while the presence of Lonesome George’s remains served as a reminder of the ongoing conservation efforts. This visit emphasized the importance of preserving these iconic species for generations to come.
