Beginning our adventure around the Galapagos Islands, we started our expedition visiting the unique central island of Santa Cruz. It has the biggest human population of the archipelago and mesmerizing nature to discover. After we disembarked on a small pier, a bus took us to El Trapiche, a traditional sugar cane mill and coffee production farm, owned by one of the first colonizers of the island. Trying all the delicious sugar products that they can make from sugar cane was interesting and fun.
We continued our journey through the highlands of Santa Cruz with a visit to the amazing site “Los Gemelos” (The Twins), which are a pair of large pit craters (or sinkholes) surrounded by a forest of scalesia pedunculata, an endemic species of the area.
Lunch was waiting for us at a spectacular restaurant with delicious food. While we were enjoying lunch, Galapagos giant tortoises could be observed. After lunch we got to explore the area and learn more about their history.
