As this journey continued, we visited Santa Cruz Island and Puerto Ayora, the largest human settlements in the Galapagos. An interesting visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station gives insight on the conservation program with Galapagos giant tortoises and their population restoration in the archipelago.
Visits to local agricultural projects in the highlands of Santa Cruz and a stop at a nearby school allows us to make a connection with the human aspect of the Galapagos. We then enjoyed a wonderful lunch and exploration of the surrounding area with the Galapagos giant tortoises.
