Today we woke up on the harbor of Puerto Ayora, the largest settlement of Galapagos. We visited the Captive Breeding Center of The Charles Darwin Research Station at the Galapagos National Park where tortoises are raised in captivity to be released when they can fend for themselves. Here we saw the saddle-shaped tortoises from Hood Island.
After the visit, we took a bus to the highlands to see a farm where coffee and sugarcane are farmed and processed. Later we had lunch before visiting another farm where dome-shaped tortoises were grazing in the fields, as if they were cows. We also walked through a lava tunnel that allowed us to understand the formation of these islands. It was a full day and later we had a show of local artists entertaining us after dinner onboard the ship.
