San Cristóbal Island is one of the easternmost islands in the Galapagos archipelago, located approximately 1,000 km off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. Punta Pitt and Cerro Brujo are two popular visitors’ sites on the island. The sites are known for the stunning landscapes and unique wildlife that our guests were able to explore today.
We started our morning with a pre-breakfast outing to Punta Pitt. Located on the northeastern tip of San Cristóbal, Punta Pitt is known for its dramatic volcanic formations and diverse array of seabirds. Our guests had the opportunity to see three species of boobies today, including red-footed boobies, blue-footed boobies, and Nazca boobies, as well as frigatebirds, storm petrels, and other seabirds. Red-footed boobies are particularly abundant at Punta Pitt. The boobies nest along the rocky cliffs and display their bright red feet to potential mates during courtship rituals. Blue-footed boobies are also a popular attraction for visitors to the Galapagos. These distinctive birds are known for their bright blue feet, which they use to attract mates during courtship displays. After our invigorating hike, we came back on board to enjoy a well-deserved and delicious breakfast followed by snorkeling and kayaking.
During lunch, we navigated to Cerro Brujo to enjoy one of the most stunning beaches in the world. Cerro Brujo is located on the west coast of San Cristóbal and is known for its stunning white sand beach and volcanic rock formations. Visitors to Cerro Brujo can observe a variety of wildlife, including sea lions, marine iguanas, and shorebirds. The beach is an important nesting site for sea turtles.
San Cristóbal Island is a unique and important destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Its stunning landscapes and diverse array of wildlife make it a must-visit location for anyone interested in the natural world. What a great way to end our expedition.
