On our last day aboard National Geographic Quest, the weather conditions allowed us to visit the picturesque little island of Pompion Caye. This small island is covered in coconut palms and has a sheltered beach where we could spend our morning kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling.
After setting up camp, we split in groups to explore our underwater surroundings. You’d never imagine so much marine wildlife being only a few steps off the beach, and in such close proximity!
In the afternoon, the island was visited by a fishing boat that had returned to sort an impressive catch of queen conch. The crew then regaled us with a very special peak into an important facet of traditional Belizean life on the water. We could snorkel and relax on this charming caye for a few more hours before returning to the ship.
