As we ghosted into the Wrangle Narrows on our approach to Petersburg, the misty vestiges of yesterday’s rain lost their grip, and were replaced by a quiescent fog upon which today would be written. The harbor was full of seiners since the last seine opener of the season had just been completed, another sign that the drier days of summer would soon slip behind us. The docks were humming with end-of-the-season activity as our guests mustered off to each of their respective morning activities, and the arrival of our ship was only noted as one more vessel coming to dock.
Bicyclists gathered on the dock, as Zodiacs were readied to give tours of the docks from the sea-level vantage that is their prevue. Other Zodiacs were busy ferrying guests to hikes to an amazing muskeg on Kupreanof Island on the far side of Wrangle Narrows. The clockwork that is a hallmark of Lindblad Expeditions proceeded for nearly an hour, and then the docks became a bit quieter as the business of making memories was carried out to many places.
One has the feeling there will be much conversation around the dinner table this evening as we share the tales of our day in Petersburg – the town that fish built!
