Last night the skies cleared as night fell, and we were treated to the soft blush of the aurora borealis on the northern horizon. By morning we found ourselves in Petersburg, Alaska, “the town that fish built”.
It was a soft Alaska morning into which we had many options for exploration; different walks in the forest, boat tours around the harbor, an exploratory bike tour, and a chance to visit town at our own pace. In a light drizzle, it was an opportunity to test our raingear as we embraced the Scandinavian saying; “there is no bad weather, only bad clothing”. By late afternoon all were aboard and cozily settled in the lounge as we transited the dramatic channel of the Wrangell Narrows, heading south towards Canada but with one more day to explore the wilds of Southeast Alaska.
