We spent the morning in Oban enjoying a walk to McCaig's Folly, a circular tower above the town built by wealthy banker John Stuart McCaig as a monument to his family. McCaig hired unemployed stone masons to build the monument starting in 1895, and construction stopped when he died in 1902. The tower provided lovely views of the town. Our photo instructor, Anna, gave a talk about smart phone photography and our historian, Robin, gave a presentation on The Road to Culloden.
Afterward, we set sail for Corpach to start our journey on the Caledonian Canal. After arriving, guests had the option of kayaking on Loch Linnhe or visiting Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct. The monument commemorates where clansmen gathered to pledge their support for Bonnie Prince Charlie on his unsuccessful Jacobite rebellion. The viaduct is a lovely photo spot made famous by the Harry Potter movies.
