We started our expedition with a pre-breakfast outing to explore North Seymour Island. This small island is an uplifted land mass, which today is home to a large variety of nesting sea birds. We were able to encounter several male frigatebirds performing their courtship display. Blue-footed boobies were seen on the trails and sea lions were resting from their long fishing outings.
One of the highlights of the morning exploration was the Galapagos land iguanas. These golden dragons were everywhere. The rainy season of the Galapagos greened up the vegetation, providing plenty of food for reptiles on this island.
During the afternoon we went deep water and beach snorkeling. Plenty of species of fish, small reef sharks, and a couple of playful sea lions were spotted during the snorkeling outings.
After snorkeling we had a wet landing to explore a coastal water lagoon where American flamingos were spotted. We had the opportunity to photograph the flamingos up close with the afternoon’s soft light.
We finished our day with a nice stroll along the coast of Rábida and returned to National Geographic Islander ll with memories that will last forever.
