Even a full day in Galapagos does not have enough hours to enjoy all of the treasures of this place. Today was our first day in this paradise, and we returned to the ship exhausted but exhilarated by the incredible sightings that we had.

In the morning we visited North Seymour. The experience was almost indescribable. We were simply surrounded by the amazing animals of the Galapagos.  Blue-footed boobies were nesting right next to our trail, while frigatebirds engaged in their courtship rituals nearby. Galapagos land iguanas walked slowly among us, undisturbed by our presence. The morning was sunny, and birds covered the blue sky.

It was difficult to tear ourselves away, but eventually it was time to return to the ship and navigate to our second island of the day: The red island of Rábida.

We started with a snorkeling excursion, and our luck with wildlife sightings continued. We enjoyed not only many different kinds of colorful fish, but reef sharks and sea turtles too. We then disembarked on a very unique beach, with purple sand due to the amount of iron on this island. As if we didn´t get enough color, three bright flamingos came to feed in a lagoon right in front of us, just at sunset. We left the island with the last sun light, as an almost full moon started rising from the horizon.

Walking with this unique creatures provides such an incredible perspective when it comes to biology. Already we feel welcomed, as if we are part of this ecological balance. We ended this first day with a sense that we can all live in harmony and share the trail, the island, and the world.
