It’s been an incredible day here on board National Geographic Quest in British Colombia. We started our day in Johnstone Strait with humpback whales off the bow at sunrise. We slowed the boat to watch the pod of whales, only to discover that they were all around the ship in every direction. We spent nearly the entire morning watching the majestic blow of humpbacks as they surfaced to feed and breathe around National Geographic Quest, and around lunchtime we left the feeding frenzy towards our afternoon destination of Alert Bay.
After yet another incredible meal, we departed the ship to visit the cultural center and learn more about the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations people of the region. Next, we visited the totem park to view the incredible handmade totem poles that stand tall in the park, and finally we visited the community center to view a dance performance performed by the locals. It was yet another beautiful day in British Colombia, and we look forward to many more to come!
