Today we visited the island of Isabela and two beautiful visitor sites, Urbina Bay and Tagus Cove.

During the morning we woke up anchored next to Alcedo Volcano in a place that is famous in the Galapagos. Urbina Bay was an area that was uplifted in 1954 due to the magmatic activity of Alcedo. Five square kilometers came up within a day. After breakfast we went ashore for a walk to enjoy this unique place. As the years have passed, the uplifted land has been covered by a thick forest of muyuyos and poison apple trees. This is also a place where giant tortoises and land iguanas are found resting, sleeping, and eating the numerous leaves of the plants found here. The morning was hot, so much rewarding beach time cooled off the guests while the younger explorers took Zodiac driving lessons.

Later in the day we moved to Tagus Cove, which used to be an anchorage place for whalers and other navigators. The area was protected from the wind and currents around these waters.

The weather was perfect for the multiple water activities, so we started with kayakers followed by snorkelers. Here there is a colony of penguins that can be spotted from the kayak or while snorkeling. Plenty of fish activity and turtles were the entertainment for the snorkelers. The last options for the day were a hike and Zodiac rides. On the walk, the scenery was decorated by the sun as it was setting. For the Zodiac riders, views of penguins, cormorants and the coast filled the time as the day was coming to a close.

We are in the middle of our journey in the famous Galapagos Islands and there is more excitement to come!
