National Geographic Orion spent the day on the island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands. In the morning, everyone had the chance to learn from our Global Perspectives speaker, Richard Vevers, about the criticality of coral reefs. We also learned from visiting scientist Maya Santangelo about manta rays. In the afternoon, everyone took to the Zodiacs to head out on our first snorkel operation of the trip. We plunged into the warm waters to observe the corals and mantas we had just learned about. We saw firsthand the importance and beauty of the ocean. What a day!
