Bona, Otoque & Iguana Islands, Panama

We woke up in front of Otoque and Bona Islands, still on the central pacific of Panama. The bird watchers got their opportunity to explore a nature performance on Zodiac cruises, an experience appreciated by any nature lover. Flocks of magnificent frigate birds, brown pelicans, brown and the spectacular blue-footed boobies were nesting as guardians of the islands.

Then we came back on board and the Sea Voyager cruised towards the west and anchored in front of Iguana Island, right in front of Peninsula de Azuero, a Biological Reserve which is habitat to not only over 100 acres of coral reefs but another large colony of frigate birds. We had the chance to take a short walk for an amazing close up to them nesting an it became a great opportunity for photographers.

The geological formations of the islands reminded us of the isthmus’ origins and importance as a natural bridge between north and south. Uplifted cliffs, basalts and rocky tilted stratos as well as caves in the islands showed the power and interaction of nature.

Then the Sea Voyager kept on going to explore another paradisiacal area of the pacific coast and we met at the lounge to bring back memories of what the day offered to us.
