Los Islotes and Bonanza Beach, Isla Espiritu Santo
Wow! The day began and ended in the water, and what a day it was. We had the best of everything that Baja has to offer, swimming with sea lions, frolicking with dolphins and snorkeling with tropical reef fish. It was a perfect day.
Our day started with an early departure from a quiet and protected anchorage on the leeside of Isla San Jose, and to our surprise the wind had died down and the seas had flattened, it was a delicious flat calm morning as we sailed towards Los Islotes. En route and at sunrise, we discovered a large pod of Bottlenose dolphins that were busy feeding. By breakfast we were anchored next to Los Islotes and headed over to snorkel, swim and SCUBA among these graceful creatures. The water visibility was fantastic, and the sea lions were as interested in us, as we were in them. It was hard to tear ourselves away.
Almost as soon as we departed we re-discovered a pod of bottlenose dolphins who cavorted with the ship in the crystal-clear waters. What a show they put on, bow-riding, breaching and playing with us. We kept thinking it could not get any better, and then it did!
Bonanza beach is an idyllic four mile sweep of white sand beach with turquoise waters lapping gently ashore. Another afternoon of fun in the water was in store. Snorkeling, swimming and of course the re-appearance of our banana boat, even some of the adults were cajoled into riding the banana boat!
