Bird watching is one of the interesting activities in the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), Mexico. The large variety of sea birds and land birds is amazing. This photo was taken at Isla Carmen, the third largest island in the Sea of Cortez.
These brown pelicans grow their breeding plumage during the winter; chestnut coloration from the top of the head down to the back, yellowish feathers around the head and a red pouch. This pair of brown pelicans were performing a courtship display; you can see the wings spread and a bright red pouch.
