Tobago Cays
Today we spent the morning at sail on our way to Tobago Cays. The wind silently filled our sails, the morning was a good time to relax and enjoy the pleasure of riding the wind like in the old days. A presentation on “Coral Reefs and Our Modern World” was a good introduction to our afternoon’s snorkeling.
Sea Cloud II anchored at the picturesque island of Mayreau, where a catamaran with local crew awaited for our arrival to take us to Tobago Cays. Our first snorkeling stop provided a wonderful opportunity to snorkel with green sea turtles, as they gathered to feed on the sea grass that grows on the sandy shallow sea floor. Many of us were able to get very close to several of these graceful marine reptiles. Unconcerned with our presence, sea turtles of different sizes fed on the grass and swam thorough the crystal clear waters just a few meters away from us. Not far from there, the catamaran took us to a coral reef, where we saw the most diverse fish species we have seen during this voyage. Blue tangs, trumpet fish, different wrasses and colorful parrotfish were seen. Caribbean reef squid and a huge southern stingray were among our most exciting sightings.
Back on board, we raised anchor to sail towards another nearby island. After the evening recap on the lido deck and a wonderful dinner, we arrived at Bequia. The Kings of Strings, Bequia’s finest hoe-grown string band performed for us under the stars at a place that many of us would describe as paradise on earth.
