Palouse River,
This morning we arrived at the mouth of the Palouse River where it meets the Snake River in eastern Washington. There were two choices for the morning, which was just perfect weather wise with a few clouds and warming temperatures all morning, either kayaking or a Zodiac ride along the banks of the Palouse.
Those that chose to kayak enjoyed the serenity of having a beautifully stark landscape all to themselves as they quietly paddled through the water. The water is up this month due to the holding of water behind the dams for use later in the fall. This meant there was little beach to enjoy before entering the kayaks.
The Zodiac cruisers enjoyed a quicker and more extensive ride through the Palouse all the way to the free flowing portion. There they had a chance to see just how shallow the river is as it tries to fill up the huge canyon left behind by the glacial water floods of millennia ago. A few sightings from the day were deer, coyote, great blue heron, red tailed hawk, swallow nests, and ducks along the shoreline.
