Isabela and Fernandina Islands
It is not easy to describe feelings in general, but in this paradisiacal archipelago, it is the only way to express our sincere admiration to the beauty of the Galápagos. Today we experienced a fantastic day that seemed like a never-ending fairy tale.
In the morning during our Zodiac cruise, we spotted the rather bizarre-looking giant sunfish, Mola mola. This huge fish can reach gargantuan sizes. The current world record in size is pretty impressive: 10 feet in diameter and 5072 pounds of weight! At recap time in the evening, I had the joy of sharing some information compiled through the last years of the natural history of this peculiar fish.
The afternoon’s walk was great as well. Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island is one of my favourite places on Earth. Intriguing black lava flows merge in an artistic way with surrounding deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Many Galápagos sea lions, flightless cormorants and huge groups of marine iguanas carry their lives peacefully in this place. To top the day off, a Galápagos hawk was spotted just few feet away from the trail. The majestic bird posed for its avid photographers and astonished observers for a long time. In a nutshell, we experienced a memorable day around these remote realms of the Galápagos Islands. It was an incredible day that imprinted unforgettable memories on the minds of our visitors.
