Isabela and Fernandina Islands
One word to describe this day: perfect! One perfect day in Galápagos, spent in the western realm of this archipelago, surrounded by impressive volcanoes and fearless animals. Many joined us early in the morning in the outside decks to observe Roca Redonda in its maximum splendour. As we sailed around it, we heard and saw the different birds that call this rock, in the middle of nowhere, home. The rest of the morning was spent among Mola mola fish, dozens of green sea turtles and penguins.
Fernandina, in the afternoon, was peaceful and beautiful. Several blue-footed boobies observed the Polaris groups going and coming from a lava outcrop close to the landing site. The Galápagos hawk at the top of red mangroves welcomed us to the largest pristine island in the world. Baby sea lions look even cuter in Fernandina while cormorants, penguins and iguanas lived their lives while we walked the trails of this remote place. And one can’t forget the pelicans (this pelican) which were completely unaware of our presence and almost landed on our heads!
