Espanola Island
Happy New Year to every one!
We have spent the last week of the year here aboard Polaris enjoying the last days of 2004, with a very nice group of guests, and also with our great crew members.
We started our new year with beautiful days. Today in Espanola Island we had great weather and we explored the island with a group of guests eager to do all of the activities offered.
In the afternoon the sun was shining, good thing for the snorkelers and beach people. They all had a great time in the water swimming not only with different fish but also with sharks and moray eels. We had several takers for the glass bottom boat option, who also enjoyed learning about the underwater life and the different endemic fish that we have here in the Galápagos.
After all these activities we decided to go to the beach and to enjoy the rest of the afternoon together with a big colony of sea lions. We encountered different guide friends from Galápagos, sat on a balsa log, when suddenly a mocking bird came to us, started watching our faces and hats and finally decided to go and rest on to the shoulder of this person and bit its beard (see the picture). It was so funny! And a surprise for all of us. Even more amazing was the fact that this mocking bird continued doing the same thing until another one came and chased it away. These birds always surprise us with something new every day!
