Floreana Island

This island, located at the southernmost tip of the archipelago, is a wonderful mosaic; like all the islands in this archipelago. The mosaic is so diverse, so colorful, that it is difficult to believe that it is not the brilliant product of one of the minds of the most imaginative and famous painters. Weird legends of pirates, whalers, marooned sailors, hard working first settlers and so forth are still floating in the air. Wonderful volcanic landscapes that are breathtaking and, at the same time, intimidating. A strange and unique flora that includes some endemic plant species found only here. Stunning beaches, some white and fine as flour; volcanic, black as graphite or volcanic green are part of the diversity. All of the above makes up the perfect setting for many species of animals that roam and live immersed in their ecological naiveté. Today flamingos, red-necked phalaropes, red-billed tropic birds, blue footed boobies, pacific green sea turtles, ghost crabs, Galapagos sea lions and tropical colorful fish among other species were performing a real nature show on the most wonderful stage, and all for our benefit. All I described before, and far more that escapes my words, is part of the beauty of Floreana that I’ve tried to bring alive for you on reading this report. An island that offers not only physical attractions but lets you enjoy your own fantasies, and lets you run freely with your imagination…
