This trip has, so far, been non-stop fun! Our sightings have been spectacular, particularly as far as cetaceans are concerned, the weather has been great for this time of the year, and the general atmosphere on board brilliant.

For several evenings now, our guests (younger ones in particular) have been learning the steps of Latin dances such as Merengue and Salsa. These dances are performed in pairs, to a very lively beat and a lot of twirling, and are undoubtedly the most colorful aspect of Ecuadorian culture. Many of our crewmembers, bartender John in particular, are great dancers and enjoy teaching their moves very much, especially with as keen a group of dancers as we have this week. The lessons we had during the last few evenings really paid off tonight, as we were anchored in Puerto Ayora (the most important human settlement of the islands) until after twelve, and had a local band on board. Their name is “Galapagos Identity”, and although they play with a strong Andean influence, many of their songs (composed by the band) are inspired by the beauty and feel of the islands. I have rarely seen the dance floor as packed, as we lost all inhibitions and joined in the fun. Many of our guests have real talent!
