Cruising Isla del Carmen & Isla Danzante Waters
Yes, we had a calm sea today. The wind was minimal, and the weather was marvelous. As we cruised these waters, we saw seabirds and sea life, in the form of jumping Thurston’s devil rays (mobulas), and fish. A large pod of common dolphins showed off near us as they swam in different directions, pursuing small fish. They jumped clear of the water and even smacked this water with their flukes! Digital cameras really worked this morning!
Come mid-day, we were anchored off Isla Danzante at Honeymoon Cove, where incredibly clear waters received us for snorkeling, kayaking and, on land, hiking. These calm waters showed off all the reef fish we could imagine, and many of us were completely satisfied with snorkeling. Damsel fishes, angelfish and king angel fish decorated these waters, as well as a good number of invertebrates, among them the echinoderms or sea stars, urchins and sea cucumbers! At the same time, we had a small group of bottlenose dolphins swim in the small cove, among the snorkelers.
Hiking was quite interesting, as we had the opportunity to meet quite a few desert plants, and even to try some fruit of the sour pitahaya which is, of course, very sweet and violently red!
