Isla del Carmen Channel & Isla Danzante
Just another beautiful day in Baja California! Dawn was, as usual, marvelous. The weather was lovely and the sea calm. We sailed around Isla del Carmen in search of charismatic megafauna, and saw quite a few dolphins, some of which, a group of bottlenose dolphins, came and bow rode us! Yes, many cameras went a’clickin then!
Later on, we saw some maybe tropical whales (Bryde’s whale) that, as usual, did not cooperate with us. We saw them once, and they disappeared immediately, never to be spotted again. But then we saw a larger whale that turned out to do to us the same thing. She simply disappeared. Well, we also saw some jumping Mobula rays and fish…
By then, we were approaching Isla Danzante, in the same group of islands as Isla del Carmen, all in a National Park.
After a delicious lunch, we were already at our anchorage, and soon disembarked, to have fun with kayaks and hiking in this rough, lovely island. Many cacti were seen, some even with fruit. A few of the last flowers were seen, as the last rain happened in October. But the hills still had that marvelous green colour, so rare for the desert. By mid-afternoon we changed beach, and were surprised to see that the crew had already set up the chairs and food tables for a delicious beach barbecue, which we enjoyed thoroughly. Then William gave us a story of the Aztec gods, and star gazing with John followed that.
