Dragon’s Hill & Chinese Hat Islet
We explored the northwest area of Santa Cruz Island today, and we all could feel the isolation around Dragon Hill, our first visit of the morning.
We started our day walking along the shore, observing the incredible landscape of the littoral zone. We were looking for the dragons of Galápagos, the land iguanas. We were lucky to find a couple of them just next to our trail, and we could observe these reptiles while they were feeding on cactus and digging their holes.
The temperature was increasing, just perfect for our snorkelers. As soon as we came back from our walk, we put on wetsuits and departed for Guy Fawkes Rocks. The wall was full of bright colors: algae, sponges, seaweed and many fish were making this area a mosaic of different tones; even sharks were included in this marine expedition!
After lunch the National Geographic Polaris dropped its anchor close to Chinese Hat Islet. The wind strength had increased, so we took our zodiacs again and went for all water activities: snorkeling, kayaking, beach time, panga rides… It is such a beautiful place, surrounded by lava flows and some parasitic cones. We had fun!
There are many things to see and to remember. Everyday Galápagos offers a new experience, and we got it today!
