Dragon Hill & Sombrero Chino

On our second to last day in the Galápagos we saw incredible things. We were ready for even more excitement at Dragon Hill. We landed during such a low tide we could have walked from the National Geographic Polaris. Once on the island we were surrounded by black lava and a cactus forest. Then we came across the Galápagos land iguana, one of the most striking creatures in the area. It was well worth the effort to find them!

As we returned to the ship by Zodiac we prepared for deep water snorkeling off a group of islets called Guy Fawkes. This marine ecosystem was extraordinary, all along a wall full of marine invertebrates, fish, sharks and sea lions.

We spent the afternoon in the channel between Santiago Island and Sombrero Chino. This sheltered area is the best spot for kayaking, deep water snorkeling, and Zodiac cruising along the coast. All was completed with time on a white sandy beach.
