Floreana Island

Floreana is the island of colors.

We disembarked early in the morning to visit the very picturesque Post Office Barrel. There we had the opportunity to walk through the history of the island: starting from whalers at the end of the XVIII century; the Oil War in the XIX century; the early colonizers and we finished by becoming part of the tradition and leaving some non-stamped post cards in the barrel.
We came back for snorkeling and glass bottom boat activities. The water was colder than usual, but this lower temperature brings more nutrients to the sea life. Therefore we took pleasure in the yellow tails of razor surgeon fish, the red color of tiny cardinal fish, the orange tail of the king angel fish, the beautiful yellow and brown “chocolate chip” sea stars, the green sea urchins, wow! There were so many colors, we really loved every minute in the water!

After lunch we disembarked on the unique green sand beach at Punta Cormorant, our highlights were the pink flamingos, but we had some yellow warblers and black finches joining us during our walk as well. At the end of the trail we got to a bright white beach, where we found green pacific sea turtles, some of them swimming around and we saw a couple mating!

As we were coming back we still could enjoy the colors of Floreana, the most beautiful sunsets happen there. What a day! Nature is an outstanding piece of art.
