Española Island
Today is our first full day in the Galápagos Island, one of the few places in the whole world where animals are tame and many are unique species, found nowhere else.
Our first outing took place in one of the richest places of the islands, Punta Suarez, located on Española. Since the first moment we set foot on the concrete jetty, we had a welcoming committee that consisted of different species of animals such as sea lions with their pups, mockingbirds, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and more.
Along the trail we got the opportunity to watch waved albatrosses, Nazca boobies, swallow tailed gulls, and Darwin finches. We can't forget the spectacular blow hole, which is a fissure at the base of a rock where the strong surf hits the rock and with the pressure the water rises up over thirty feet in high.
At noon, to recover our energy lost in the morning, we had an Ecuadorian buffet with several dishes from the three regions in the country.
In the late afternoon, we got the chance to do water activities, like sailing the glass bottom boat, deep water snorkeling, snorkeling for beginners, kayaks, and hanging out on the beach. It was so fascinating to share the beach with sea lions, just to be seated on the beautiful white sand next to those adorable creatures in an isolated island. Terrific!
