Southern Isabela Island

Everyone on the National Geographic Islander is having a blast! This is not only because of the great adventures we are sharing while on the Islands, but also because we have developed a great friendship! Being in one of the most incredible places on the planet, it is only natural that our bonding has grown even stronger.

Today there was a great deal of bonding as the National Geographic Islander soccer team had been challenged by guests to a soccer match tomorrow afternoon. The guests named themselves the “The Boobies.” They seemed to have developed strategies that would undoubtedly obliterate the National Geographic Islander team “The Sharks.” Even with our almost nonexistent possibility of winning, we would bravely face and fulfill our destiny!

Our visit during the morning on the Island of Isabela was only part of the intensive training previous to the soccer match (another strategy from the “The Boobies”). The sightings and the great volcanic landscape were part of the “relaxation strategy” that we, the National Geographic Islander team, used to distract our opponents. To our favor, they never noticed the tactic, and simply abdicated to the great pleasures that we offered them during our morning visit to the island. The long walk along the shorelines and the many encounters with several land iguanas, the beach time and the swimming accomplished what we were looking for, total relaxation!

After the heavy lunch (another one of our strategies) we set out for a walk on settings that could have been taken from the moon itself! The volcanoes and the lava fields were the perfect scenery to understand the volcanic origin of these islands. The Zodiac cruise and the gentle ocean breeze on our faces was the ideal ending to our activities for the day, but there is for sure much more to come tomorrow!
