Floreana Island
An optional early morning wake up call took us to the most historical bay of the Galápagos Islands. Post Office Bay on Floreana Island was the anchorage place for pirates, whalers, buccaneers and early settlers since the sixteen hundreds. They’d come here to hunt land tortoises and look for fresh water.
A wine barrel was placed in the late seventeen hundreds to be the mail receptacle for what would become the most traditional mailing system, and we still carry on this tradition today. It is a hand to hand mail delivery system, and in that way we all make new friends around the world!
After our real breakfast, we had more options scheduled: bird watching and snorkeling along the cliffs of Champion Islet.
During the afternoon two kayaking outings were offered, and they became the highlight for the guests who took the option. The afternoon walk over Punta Cormorant was highlighted by the colorful presence of the pink flamingos on a near by brackish water lagoon.
The human history of Floreana was another outstanding and interesting feature of the day, which we explained to the guests as we observed the enchanted landscape around us.
