Bay of Biscay
Days at sea are a wonderful way to pass the time and experience traveling by a small vessel. It seems one could easily become bored as there are no landings planned for the entire day, but in actuality there are many things to do. Some gaze at the horizon, and are mesmerized by the gentle rolling of the swell following along behind. Others catch up on writing, reading, sleeping, or socializing. Some stand on the bridge all day watching the birds pass by. Gannets, shearwaters, terns, and storm-petrels are constant companions. Lucky observers are rewarded with porpoise and dolphins, including a few that approach the ship for a bit of a ride on the bow, gently whistling as they enjoy the free ride. Others attend the numerous lectures, filling their heads with information relevant to our voyage.
Also, on this day at sea, one could play Jeopardy!. The Clue Crew from the show Jeopardy! is on board with us for this voyage, filming various video clues in the locations we are visiting. This is being done for their 25th season and highlights some of the amazing destinations of Lindblad Expeditions. For this one game, we were all able to participate and become contestants on the show, with all the answers (and questions!) being specially designed for this voyage. It was an up and down battle, but in the end we all came out winners.
To cap off the day, a fiery sunset on one end was mirrored by a nearly full moon rising to the east. So much to do on a day when so little was actually done!
