Bartolomé Island and Chinese Hat
We started a wonderful day with an early pre-breakfast outing to the top of Bartolomé Island. Along the way we learned about the amazing geological features of this young island, and the process of new species establishing in a new area.
Later we explored the underwater world with some snorkeling around the emblematic Pinnacle Rock. We spotted a few sharks and some guests were very lucky to swim with penguins for quite a while! The glass-bottom boat was another chance our explorers had to enjoy the underwater life, and several outings were offered.
The National Geographic Endeavour navigated towards Chinese Hat, a small islet next to the coast of Santiago Island. As our oceans are full of life, we went snorkeling again, in the calm waters off the coast made by the young lava flows of Santiago! This is a great place to see Galápagos tiger snake eels, reef sharks and even more Galápagos penguins! The penguin population is not big in the islands, so we were lucky to see the ones we saw today!
As the sky was getting a little cloudy and the sun was going down, we returned to our mother ship to continue our expedition in the enchanted archipelago!
