Islas das Cies

After spending the past few days amongst many people and ancient buildings in the cities of France and Spain, a quieter stop was appropriate. The ship anchored off of a set of small islands that are a part of the national park system in Spain. There are well- groomed trails, places to camp, and wonderful hikes along the granite cliffs. The beaches are also very inviting for a stroll, swim, or simply to sit and think.

There were a few organized walks looking for plants and birds or anything else of interest. One group found an old cemetery before walking along the beach. The morning was bright and warm with little wind. It was a chance to stretch our legs before returning to the ship. We would be sailing the rest of the day down the coast to Lisbon, Portugal and listening to presentations on the area from our staff.
