National Geographic Endurance arrived at Fortaleza with the first rays of sunshine. An early departure from the ship allowed us to explore the forest of Tapada dos Trilhos in Serra de Baturité.
For lunch, we went to a famous local restaurant, Sítio São Luis. We enjoyed delicious local food including plantain gratin in the beautiful surroundings. We had a chance to explore nature and observe many birds in the vicinity of the restaurant.
On our way back to town, we stopped at a traditional handicraft market in an old prison building. Today, the old cells offer space to many local sellers with very creative, handmade products. We even spotted marmosets.
To end our last day in Brazil, we went to the local dunes, where fresh coconut water awaited us. From the top of the dunes, we had great views of the city of Fortaleza.
